About the Role

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) oversees the risk management operations of nbs, combining risk and credit functions to safeguard the Bank’s profitability while supporting the community. As a senior management role, the CRO is critical to mitigating credit risk, AML risk, and compliance risk. The CRO contributes to the Bank’s strategic goals by developing a robust risk management framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic insights on risk-related matters.


Reporting directly to the CEO and advising the Board of Directors through the Risk and Compliance Committee, the CRO integrates risk concepts into strategic planning, identifies and mitigates risks, and strengthens the Bank’s risk management infrastructure.

Job Description

The CRO contributes to the Bank’s strategic goals by developing a robust risk management framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic insights on risk-related matters.


Reporting directly to the CEO and advising the Board of Directors through the Risk and Compliance Committee, the CRO integrates risk concepts into strategic planning, identifies and mitigates risks, and strengthens the Bank’s risk management infrastructure.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and enhance the Bank's  risk management framework aligned with its strategic, financial, and operational goals.

  2. Advise the Board through the Risk and Compliance Committee, fostering a culture of proactive risk management.

  3. Develop and maintain risk management policies, processes, and documentation to support business growth and decision-making.

  4. Liaise with the Regulator/CBS on risk management matters, responding to recommendations and audit findings.

  5. Ensure compliance with AML/CFT regulations and monitor ongoing adherence.

  6. Oversee KYC/AML Officers conducting client reviews and transaction monitoring for unusual activity.

  7. Conduct Bank-wide risk assessments to identify and measure risks across business operations.

  8. Establish risk limits, develop mitigation plans, and monitor implementation progress.

  9. Monitor external environments and industry trends, identifying and planning for emerging risks.

  10. Oversee credit approval processes and portfolio monitoring for all credit products.

  11. Review and update credit policies, ensuring effective communication throughout the organization.

  12. Manage the loan portfolio to ensure compliance with underwriting standards and risk appetite.

  13. Conduct due diligence for business development opportunities.

  14. Oversee Fraud Prevention, Regulatory Compliance, Legal, and Quality Assurance functions.

  15. Create and present risk reports to Management and the Risk and Compliance Committee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking,  Business Administration, Finance, or Commerce (minimum requirement).

Experience

  • At least seven (7) years of direct risk and compliance management experience in the banking industry.

  • Experience in the finance sector or related fields is advantageous.
